Public Domain Day 2010

Public Domain Day is a feast. Feast of what’s accessible to all and free of charge, the Feast of the role of public domain with regard to our culture and knowledge. Every year on January the 1st, access to new resources is opened up around the world - these are no longer subject to copyright as they pass into the public domain.

In Poland on 1st January 2010, works of these artists, whose seventieth anniversary of death occurred in 2009, are becoming a part of the public domain.

Public Domain Day is a great day to talk about openness of culture and education, and about copyright law, the importance of which has increased significantly in the digital world. For the second time in Poland, this Day is organised by the Coalition for Open Education which brings together organizations and institutions creating open educational resources.

On 30th December 2009, we would like to invite all people who care about ways of making available and sharing cultural works, who care about our common heritage - the “pillars” upon which our culture stands, who finally want to learn more about Free Culture and Open Educational movement.

We will meet at noon at the National Library in Warsaw to talk about the role of cultural openness, the public domain and copyright law. In precise terms, but not just from a dry, expert perspective. Because just like the Public Domain, this Day and meeting is for everyone of us.
